Amazon announces theft of private data

September 1, 2000: Amazon.com just announced that it was changing its privacy policy and now claims ALL private customer data is a corporate asset. Since many customers gave up this information under AMAZON's old guidelines, to some this amounts to theft.

Recently a defunct e-toy site, which vowed to NEVER share private data, was trying to treat that as an asset to be sold to pay off creditors.

Industry self-regulation has been tried and predictibly failed. Until there is FEDERAL protection, ALL our personal data is at risk. Just think what WebTV, or ANY ISP, could do with all YOUR personal info!
