NOtE: These Power-off codes are designed to allow access to certain box utilities/info while the box is off-line. For the Power-off codes to work there must be pages and client commands already stored in the box's ROM since obviously nothing is being downloaded off the web. The pages are typically located in the file://rom/htmls/XXXXX directory... not that there is an index per se. These pages were found individually.
Since both the commands and the pages are part of the Client software, WTV can create or delete them with a client upgrade... though it's unclear whether WNI deleted the code or just the function. The "Tourist" PO Code is an example where the code still works but the client:tourist command has been disabled.
Some PO Codes are included which seem to have no purpose beyond making the box's lights blink. It can only be assumed they once worked on older client builds, or possibly on other boxes.
CODE | DESCRIPTION |
0000 | SonicsSecret reports: For INTERNAL builds only. Connects box to MESSAGE WATCH. |
217 | DIALING OPTIONS |
324 | (?) |
411 | This code takes you to your TECHNICAL INFORMATION page file://rom/htmls/TechInfo.html |
611 | This is a DishPlayer-Only Code. It takes you to your MEMORY DUMP & DEVICE STATUS page |
711 | SATELLITE DOWNLOAD DIAGNOSTICS (Dishplayer only) |
1776 | Purpose Unknown. May reset BYOISP data. |
7264 | CLEARS TELLYSCRIPT (DIALS TOLL FREE) |
12357 | This code is called a SOFT RESET by WTV. It's also been said it returns the box to a "scriptless state": that is without a valid Tellyscript. |
32768 | BLAST NV RAM Use with Caution! This code is the same as the wtv-tricks:/BlastNVRAM code found in WTV-TRICKS:/TRICKS. It will delete all the user settings stored in the box... incuding phone settings, BYOISP data, TV listings, etc. However, this code will NOT affect user settings stored on the Network level such as seen on the wtv-setup:/get list. |
77437 | This takes you to your OBSCURE DIALING OPTIONS page (file://rom/htmls/XXXXX). These pages give you further dialing options such as a chance to override a local dialup number or use an 1-800 number. |
90210 | ARTEMIS TOUR. Prior to the Summer 98 upgrade there was a Client:Tourist command. It would take you to any web or WTV page and automatically click links. This PO Code took your to the Demo page for this Tourist function which is in WTV-TRICKS:/TRICKS. That page is still there... and you will get there once you log on to a user. But the Tourist functions have been disabled. Why this Code is still active may indicate WNI can not delete the PO codes themselves, but can delete their functions. |
93288 | CONNECT SETUP: This code takes you to the infamous CONNECT SETUP page (file://rom/htmls/ConnectSetup.html) but ONLY with Internal Builds. |
242424 | PURPOSE UNKNOWN |
031158 | STARTS PLUS RETAIL DEMO. This code starts the built-in PLUS RETAIL DEMO. Whenever you turn on the box, the Demo will be there until the PO disable code is used. Unlike the Classic which had limited memory and had to load a special retail demo build, the Plus1s had sufficient extra storage on their 1.1 gig HD. |
061185 | STOPS PLUS RETAIL DEMO |
8675309 | Known as the JENNY CODE because of the rock song "Jenny Don't LoseThat Number", this code takes you to the PLUS UPGRADE PAGE. |
07081969 | OLD FORCED UPGRADE CODE This code looks like someones birthday. It is the old Classics FORCED UPGRADE CODE. Note: This code does not work if an upgrade is not being offered. Also, to prevent abuse, WTV routinely shuts down their upgrade service to prevent access. On Pluses the lights only flash. |
1800GOWEBTV | UNREGISTERS BOX (!!) This allows stores to reset a returned box for resale. |
55325532 | DO NOT USE THIS CODE! This code came from the WTV Previewers. Apparently it deletes all unnecessary files off the Plus (and DP?) Hard Drives. This can include games, demos, etc off your HD including your logs, romcache images etc. Grim reported: "I used it and my HD sounded like it was going to explode. I've never heard it make that much noise before. Then it powered off and back on. It did the "Preparing for upgrade" screen then powered back off when it was done. Then I turned my box back on, connected, my [files] were gone." |
NOT CONFIRMED | |
0001882626 | Turn on system holding options key |
