Group: alt.discuss.clubs.public.webtv.technical.ultrax Date: Sun, Aug 27, 2000, 11:17pm (EDT-3) From: grimio@webtv.net (grimio@g.webtv.net) SSID Pattern Surfacing! I think this may be going somewhere even thought I only have 2 samples. The &code &wtv-ssn-dash; puts the ssid into four groups of four so it looks like.... xxxx - xxxx - xxxx - xxxx What if the ssid of box's aren't one large digit, but a series of smaller groups of digits (specifically 4) that specify box type, model, manufacture date, manufacturer, the one for the login, who knows. Both my WebTV's are Philips Magnavox's. 8183 - 9408 - 10b0 - 0259 (old Classic) 8136 - de10 - 10b0 - 0xxx (old Plus) The third group, 10b0, that may represent that the box is a Philips. The other three groups may like I said, represent box type, etc. I'd appreciate some help. If any of your numbers are the same, please post which group and what kind of box you have, model and all. If you have an old (or new) Philips and group 3 is the same, I think it's safe to say that I might be going some where with this. I'd also appreciate it if you just posted your ssid and xxx'd out just 3 digits of it, in your post include box manufacturer, type (old Plus, sprout, etc.). Also, some boxes include the date of manufacture, if you find that somewhere on the box (sticker on back of old Plus, imprinted on panel inside old Classic) please post that too. I would say that the ssid represents, date of manufacture, manufacturer, box model, and a unique box identification (aka login). If one group contains a unique identification, that's 10,000 boxes in one 4-digit group with regular numbers, not counting how much it could be if hex was in there. I'm not trying to harvest ssid's either, why do you think I said x out part of it. Shawn

I'm not sure if he is back on webtv yet but he should be soon. We'll have to get ahold of him and see what he came up with. I should have taken notes when he told me of his findings.

Me and chezck discussed this briefly awhile back. I didnt pursue all of his theory in detail, but I know when I gave him the 7th character from my ssid, his theory proved wrong on box-type matchup. Could have been an isolated case,none-the-less,short of 100%. Then again, that may have been during his intitial stages of experimentation. One thing you can be SURE of...ALL WebTV units ssid will start with "81",and the 10th through 14th characters will ALWAYS be "0b002". Thats cut and dry. Now the 3rd,4th,5th,6th and 8th characters can be either hexidecimal(a-f) OR a digit(0-9). The seventh character is always either a 1 or 0. The ninth character is always a digit. The 15th and 16th characters can be either hex OR digits.
