Announcing WebTV's New Upgrade

New for WebTV Plus Viewers:
More Choices, Better TV

Dear WebTV Plus Viewers,

WebTV Plus was created to make your TV better, by helping you find what you want to watch on TV, explore your interests on the Internet, and communicate with friends and family. The free upgrade you just received adds more improvements.

VCR Helper
Now WebTV Plus makes taping your favorite programs easy. Just select the show you want to record in the TV Listings area and select the Record button on your screen. Our exclusive program guide does the rest. WebTV Plus tells your VCR to turn itself on and record your selection. There's even a simple way to control your VCR with WebTV — no more fumbling for a second remote. To take advantage of VCR Record your WebTV Plus must be set up to communicate with your VCR using the IR Blaster cable. (For instructions on setting up the IR Blaster cable go to TV Home by pressing "view" on the remote control. From TV Home select "Settings" select "Hooking Up" select "VCR". Follow the instructions to specify your VCR brand and to set up the IR Blaster.)

And if you're trying to decide what to record — or what to watch — WebTV Plus can help, too. Now we give you a week of listings instead of just a day — including TV listings for satellite receivers. Here you can search for a show by its type, such as 'movies' or 'sports', or by its name, such as The X-Files or ER. You can even search for shows featuring your favorite movie star. On the TV Home page, select TV Listings and then select Search. To take advantage of this feature you must have TV Listings "auto-retrieve" turned on (Go to TV Home by pressing "view" on the remote control. From TV Home select "Settings" select "Listings setup" select "Auto retrieve". Verify that "Auto retrieve" is turned on and select a retrieval time.)

You can ask your WebTV Plus to remind you when a show is about to start. Just go to the Program Info page and select Remind. A reminder message will appear on your screen just before your show starts — even if you're surfing the Web!

Favorites Get Better
We've improved TV Favorites. Selecting TV Favorites brings up a screen with descriptions of what's currently on your favorite channels and lets you quickly switch between them. And, you can look up the TV channels you've viewed most recently by pressing the Recent button on your remote control.

Even the TV Window has been redesigned and improved. Now you can watch TV while browsing the Web without obscuring any of the information on a Web page. Simply click the Options button on the remote control and then the TV Window button to make the TV Window appear onscreen. You can move the TV Window from side to side by pressing the Enter button on the remote control.

I Want My WebTV
Now you can personalize Web Home. At the bottom of Web Home, we've added a continually updating panel that contains the information you want to see-- we're calling it "My WebTV". For instance, you can follow late-breaking world events, the Dow Jones, or the NBA. You'll get up-to-the-minute news headlines from MSNBC, stock quotes from MS Investor, sports scores from ESPN and weather forecasts from the Weather Channel. Choose the panel to get more detailed information on any of the topics you see and to customize the information displayed.

And if you like music to surf by, you'll enjoy the new background melodies that have been added in every music category — more than 80 tunes in all. We've also added some great new audio capabilities to WebTV Plus. Check out what's possible at "The Beatnik Walkthrough."

Mail News
Better TV means making it easier to stay in touch. Now you can use WebTV Plus to capture a frame of video from a camcorder or TV show and include the picture with your electronic mail. Send a picture of a grandchild, a sporting event, a sunset, a movie star — it's up to you. Connect your camcorder to the Audio/Video IN jacks on the back of your WebTV Plus to capture a photo (Be sure to unplug your WebTV Plus before connecting a camcorder).

We've also added something a lot of you have asked for: the ability to cut, copy and paste text within electronic mail. By copying text from one email and pasting it into another, you save the time of having to retype the information you want to share with others.

More information about using these features and setting up your WebTV Plus is available in the Help Center.

And while you're enjoying all this better TV from WebTV Plus, we'll be hard at work, thinking up new ways to bring you TV that's even better.

Thanks from all of us to all of you!
